Hollow Stem Piling In Essex & London

We are one of the top construction services companies in the UK. Our expert engineers and construction workers can provide all construction-related services including groundworks, underpinning, foundation building, and many more. We provide the best prices in the UK for construction activities. We are fully licensed for providing these services and are well aware of government regulations. Our engineers have completed countless projects that involve hollow stem Piling. Contact us today for our cost-efficient services.

Both these Hollow stem pile techniques are based on the same principle. CFA Piling involves soil extraction through auger boring followed by pumping concrete under high pressure. The replacement pile is created by an auger (helical screw) along with boring a hollow stem into the soil according to the design depth. Fluid concrete is pumped through the auger’s hollow stem and delivered the concrete to the pile bore’s bottom. SFA piling also uses the same technique but uses grout instead of concrete.

HOLLOW STEM PILING

Common uses of Hollow Stem Piling

  • For providing structural support
  • For providing earth retention, at site boundaries and adjacent buildings
  • Hollow stem piles are highly effective in the Prevention of landslides and the protection of existing buildings
  • Highly effective for the construction of bridges, roads, and tunnels
  • Commonly used where soil quality is extremely poor

Advantages of Hollow stem Piles:

  • Resists lateral, compressive, and uplift loads
  • Continuous operation enables faster installation than other methods
  • Highly cost-efficient
  • Suitable for several types of soils including soft rock, gravel, clay, and sand
  • Low vibration and noise make it the most suitable method for populated areas
  • They possess high shear, moment capacity, and load-bearing

Cost of Hollow Stem Piling?

The cost of hollow stem piling depends on

  • Type of piling required
  • Required quantity of piles
  • Required Depth of the piles
  • The type of floor slabs

Set-up and mobilization costs vary with the size, type, and required depth for piling. It may also vary depending on the size and type of machinery being used. Site investigation and site clearance (if required) will cost you an additional amount of money. For Larger projects, a borehole investigation of the site may be necessary, which will add to the total cost.

Snapshot of our services:

The entire process may vary from case to case, however, the usual process of hollow stem piling will consist of the following steps:

A detailed site analysis will be carried out to identify the type of soil and soil conditions such as Load bearing capacity, moisture content, etc.

The site analysis will also include the identification of all adjacent buildings which may or may not be affected by hollow stem piling

The most suitable foundation method will be identified

Site clearance (if required)

Construction Initiation

Our Quality assurance:

We exercise Close control over the installation process for ensuring top quality pile construction. Our CFA rigs are the latest and are equipped with unmatched instrumentation which monitors all steps of CFA including extraction rate, pile depth, penetration rate, auger rotation, concreting pressure, and others.

Skilled Team:

We have the most well-trained civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, architects, and other technicians. Our operatives are fully aware of the applicable building regulations that govern construction activities such as hollow stem piling. They are also well acquainted with the best industrial practices and are trained to use the latest construction machinery.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Piling is the process of inserting structural piles into the ground that will become the base of the building. Piles are required where soil and earth are performing poorly and are used to spread the load of a building and firm the ground. They are a cost-effective approach to combating corrosion and are proven to significantly improve the life expectancy of a structure

The size of the trench depends on the size of the ground beam to be installed. For our typical ground beams to an extension an excavation of 600mm deep and 450mm wide is sufficient. Please ring for advice.

There are a number of reasons it may be: A site investigation has highlighted that the ground is unsuitable and un-useable to a depth of more than 2 metres. Removal costs for the excavation of traditional deep trench foundations are too expensive. Foundation trenches are not stable and health and safety, therefore, becomes an issue. There is a high-water table. Where there are soils such as clay that are likely to swell or shrink excessively depending on the amount of water content.

The job of the pile is to distribute the weight of the structure evenly. They are placed into the ground using a pile driver. Holding the piles perfectly vertical, this machine hammers each structure into the ground and also acts as a crane.

For a typical house extension, the work can take around 2-3 days, depending on the depth driven and services requested. For more complex projects, contact us for a more specific time frame.

Mini piling in Essex and Colchester is a type of specialist piling that incorporates a specific arrangement and number of driven pile and screw pile varieties. It allows for the expansion or extension of a building, while also safeguarding against ground heave and subsidence. Crucially, mini piling is often a cheaper, faster option than traditional deep trench foundations.
